Thank you to everyone who has purchased tickets and supported us as we try to do something unique and original to provide for charities while giving you an opportunity to win a dream home. As you know, this is the first time we have attempted an effort of this magnitude, and it is one of the first (if not the only) raffles of its kind in Indiana. We have received a great outpouring of support for our dream and we look forward to taking our lessons learned and creating an even bigger and better raffle next year.

Unfortunately for this year, we have not reached our goals in regards to ticket sales. Normally, the raffle would be drawn with smaller grand prizes and fewer additional prizes, but our raffle contributes directly to a number of organizations such as Pour House, Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, and Worthmore Academy. These economic times have put a strain on many of the organizations we support and many have struggled to find new sources of funding in order to help them remain in operation. The Built2Win Dream House Raffle is a great opportunity for these organizations to realize their goals, but our current ticket sales levels will not allow us to provide the aid we feel these organizations need.

Therefore we have deciding to move the final drawing date to February 5, 2010. These changes have been approved by the Indiana Gaming Commission and will allow us more ample time to not only raise additional funding for our charitable organizations, but also bolster the pot of prizes that you can win. We appreciate your support and understanding and hope that you will help us make the Built2Win Dream House Raffle a success for years to come.

Please help us reach our goal by sharing our story with your friends, family, and coworkers!

Sincerely,
Daron Gunst
Founder, Built 2 Win Dream House Raffle

Built2Win Dream House Raffle Incorporated was founded by custom home builder and philanthropist Daron Gunst with a goal of raising $20 million dollars by the year 2020 for central Indiana charities.

INDIANAPOLIS—November 23, 2009

Built2Win Dream House Raffle Incorporated was founded by custom home builder and philanthropist Daron Gunst with a goal of raising $20 million dollars by the year 2020 for central Indiana charities. The first Built2Win Dream House Raffle, with a grand prize drawing date of January 8, 2010, aims to sell 25,000 tickets at $100 each and award $1.4 million to eight charitable organizations.

The winner of the Built2Win grand prize drawing will have the choice of either the $500,000 dream house located just east of Indianapolis, IN, or a monetary prize of $350,000. In addition to the grand prize, raffle ticket purchasers are eligible to win one of 624 other cash prizes, offering a 1-in-40 chance to win a cash prize ranging from $150 to $25,000.

The $100 raffle ticket purchase not only provides the chance to win the custom-built house or any of the other 624 cash prizes, it also gives participants the opportunity to raise funds for the following Indiana-based charitable organizations: Worthmore Academy, Community First Initiative (CFI), Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, The Project School, Rally Point Inc., Indianapolis Spectrum Academy, The PourHouse Inc., and The Jerry Lovell Memorial Fund.
With the Built2Win Dream House Raffle, founder Daron Gunst is able to use his passion for home building and real estate as a vehicle to expand fundraising efforts for nonprofits. “The Built2Win Dream House Raffle was created as an innovative way to raise significant funds for charities,” said Gunst. “The raffle enables participants to give back while also having the exciting chance to win a beautiful custom home.”

The dream house, located in Schildmeier Village—an upscale community in New Palestine, Indiana, just 20 minutes southeast of downtown Indianapolis—is a 5,000 square foot custom home with all brick exterior, unique architectural features, and a dramatic two-story foyer. The four bedroom, four and a half bath dream house has an oversized three car garage, second story bonus room, private office, formal dining room and personal gym. The gourmet kitchen features professional series stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, tile backsplash, and solid maple cabinets. The house also features a home theater area pre-wired for 7.1 surround sound, a pool table/game room area with wall-mounted television, and a large limestone bar with solid cherry cabinets equipped with a wine fridge.

I knew pretty quickly that I had to follow my heart and work with the smaller “grass roots” non-profits and this is where I would find my true passion. I met with the leaders of these organizations and I could truly understand and feel how important this opportunity was to them. There were actually times that these same people would become emotional at the thought of being involved and what this could do for the people whose lives they are impacting. This affected me greatly. I kept meeting with people that were doing things unselfishly to change lives and make a difference. I could only wonder what a different place the world would be if everybody had the same “pay it forward” commitment.

We now have what I call our “non-profit networking group” formed from these organizations, sharing their resources to accomplish one goal and benefiting everyone. As great as this sounds, and it truly is a great concept, there are times that I get overwhelmed with the responsibility of making this house raffle successful. Frankly, failure is not an option for the non-profits so it must not be an option for Built2Win. This has been a humbling and yet empowering journey that I need help accomplishing and am willing to do whatever it takes to do just that. The legacy I would like this experience to leave with my children is to live your passion and always follow your heart…

When I was looking for a way to involve my business with charity through the passion of my construction company I had no idea what I was in for. I am a true believer that passion is the root of life’s greatest successes whether personal or professional. Once I received confirmation about my idea of raffling off a house the work really began. Soon I realized this was a pretty common concept happening all over America and other parts of the World. The problem was, I soon found out the process would be very complicated and highly regulated. I began to question if I would be able to figure this out and even accomplish getting it started.

While researching other house raffles it became clear they were all conducted by one large non-profit organization that had the resources and staffing available to accomplish the goal. With this, I began meeting with large and small non-profits and sharing my vision, listening to their feedback. Very quickly a pattern emerged from the large non-profits, concerns about themselves and protecting other fundraisers they were involved in, but they still wanted any money I had to offer. On the other hand the smaller “grass roots” non-profits saw this as a vehicle to create real change and opportunities for their organizations. This impacted me greatly and I wasn’t sure if I should give the money to a larger non-profit with more resources that could help sell tickets or a smaller non-profit that was more passionate and needed the money.

This is when it came to me. My heart is with the smaller organizations with less resources so why don’t I involve several smaller organizations instead of one large one. This has been the one concept that I consider a “life changing experience”. We now have a group of smaller non-profit organizations with the combined resources to compete for charitable dollars against any large non-profit organization with the people and passion to make this successful. Be careful what you wish for…

As a business owner I have never been motivated by money but always by passion. From the very beginning it has always been a goal of mine to involve my business with a charity. Like most people it was one of those things I often thought about but for one reason or another never acted on it.

Last winter I was setting goals for 2009 and again listed the same goal of using my business to benefit a charity. Unfortunately I found myself coming up with reasons “why not” instead of reasons “why.” Everything you hear or see in the media is about foreclosures, bankruptcies, unemployment, etc. Personally I felt the crunch as a homebuilder that had a $ 500,000.00 spec home that had sat empty for over two years coupled with the current economic climate.

One evening in the middle of December I was visiting a friend and he was telling me about an event that he and his wife were going to the following evening to benefit a Catholic church. The priest that ran the event married the couple twenty years earlier and he proceeded to tell me stories of what a “character” he is. One of the stories was about how he had raffled off a car at an Indiana Pacers game to save a school.

Later that night I was restless and lying awake in bed when suddenly it came to me. I am going to use this house as my “why” and not my “why not.” I am going to raffle off the house to benefit a charity. Businesses, especially homebuilders, must think differently in today’s economy or they will soon be out of business. The next day I started contacting people that I respected and asking them what they thought. Honestly I was a little nervous about sharing my idea with some of these people and didn’t want them to think I was desperate or losing my direction. Surprisingly everybody responded very positively with a strong sense of excitement and the passion was born.
